Philippines awash with dollar reserves, lends to IMF

Social and political criticisms

The Philippines awash with dollar reserves to the tune of over $70 billion, lends $l billion to IMF. IMF in turn will lend this to illiquid European countries which include Spain, Greece...

Of course, the President;s action did not escape the scathing remarks of critics and anti-s like me.
That this comes at a wrong time, and that there are so many people who are hungry etc.

My gosh;  these people think with their tongues and lips.

The money is not a give away;  not a donation, not a gift.  It is an investment,  a savings at IMF;  a reserve for some rainy day;   a deposit.

We should be proud that Philippines is now a new lender rather than a net borrower;  PHL is now a part of elite group of nations who are not suffering:  we did a 6.4% grwoth rate vs. 1.9% in US, and even less in Europe.  PHL is fortunate to be insulaed from the financial doom and gloom at US and Europe.

Come on.  It is the time to be happy and proud.

And stop the yakking and thinking with the yaskking....

Timothy Bradley attends press con on a wheelchair

Social and political criticisms

Timothy Bradley is a copycat;  knowing fully well that he did not deserve the win, he came to the press con on a wheelchair (he must be impeached?)

Eh bakit?  Why is the champ on a wheelchair?

Independence day bukas; malaya na nga ba?

Social and political criticisms

Bukas ay independence day celebration ulit.  the 114th.

Sana lumaki pa at lumawig.

Ang paglaya dapat maging ganap.

Bilang Pilipino.

Best Manny Pacquiao Video- Many Americans think Pacman won

Social and political criticisms

From the video comments, you can sense anger vs. Bradley and judges. They think the judges should ber investigated. They think there is corruption?

Manny Pacquiao clearly lost to Las Vegas and Boxing Promoters.

Social and political criticisms

To think that Manny P, the boxer lost to Bradley is to think simplistically.  Days before the fight, even the You tube videos and commentators were forecasting a Pacquiao loss.  Why?

Let us try to analyze:

l.  What would a Pacquiao win mean?   Period.  It is finished.  No more fights.  Who are other credible Pacquiao opponents?  None.  Would Mayweather still venture out with the result of this fight?  He nearly lost to Cotto who was beaten badly by Pacquiao.

2.  What would a Bradley win mean?   He would rise in ranking and become a credible opponent and his purse money and that of his opponent gets bigger.  There would be a Par 2 and Part 3.  And for let us say $l50 -200 million gross per fight, who would like a Pacquiao win.  If  Pacquiao gets $26 million prize for two more fights, he would gladly lose this one?

3.  And oh yes, that is in Las Vegas;   land of gamblers.  It is rumored that on boxing days, it is in  the betting where more money change hands.   What were the odds?

Now you know....

Do not be sad...

It is the land of boxing promoters and gambling?  We should be smart enough to understand.

P. S, Bradley like CJ and GMA too, was on a wheelchair after the fight.

Is Barack Obama a Kenyan and not an American?

Social and political criticisms

There are allegations that US President is a Kenyan and not an American.  What is correct?

Obama address yesterday on economy - critics say its a political "escapegoating"

Social and political criticisms

US President Barack Obama  had an address yesterday regarding the US economy.  He said that in general business was OK.  The GOP candidate Romney was quick to comment that Pres Obama must be out of touch.

In his usual element, PBO blamed the Republicans for failing to pass (another deficit getting action) his job bill.

He also enjoined the European Union to balance its budget (as if US had a balanced budget).

Fox news said that this all ready a part of the campaign.  Nothing concrete was proposed.

GOP proposed to extend the tax cuts and for the government to stop making anti business policies.

What are those anti business policies?

Why is the Obama administration acting this way?

A Weird Building Here; or Just Weird View, or Our World View?

Social and political criticism

I saw this on a website entitled Filosofo Tasio.  What do you think:  they built the building that way, it was a camera trick, or it was photoshopped?

Or that is the way we think.?  Tagilid?

Venus Transit 6/6/2012

Social and political criticisms

Everybody was agog yesterday at Venus transit.

What is the significance?  Is a planetary alignment that will cause earthquakes, tidal wave and the like?
Will this affect lives?  Does anybody have answer?

Or this is just a stellar attraction?  Nothing more, nothing less.

Philippines Did Better than US or Europe

Social and political criticisms

While they are talking of financial doomsday in US and  Europe, we talk about a 6.4% robust growth in Phil economy for the first quarter.  That is something to crow about.

The world is turned upside down;  US and Europe led the world in growth;  now a Phil, a problem ridden country, has jumped up the front of the lead pack.

Mabuhay

Can we sustain this.  More hard work and dedication and focus.

Which is Better Medicine for Ailing Nations: Austerity or Injection of More Money?

Social and political criticisms

                                 Anti IMF protests

The old medicine by IMF for borrower countries which had difficulties were:  belt tightening, austerity, strict tax collection tax increases.  This did not earn IMF friends. Only and mostly foes.  Most riots and demos were vs. IMF

                                          IMF Headquarters in the US

Lately there has been a change of tack:  more money, more loans.  In US they printed more money in 20ll ($l.3 trillion) zero or lower interest rate from the FED (tha is taking Keynesian theory to the max.  Has this been effective for  the US?  Has US recovered.?

Which one do you think works?  The old IMF fasting medicine, or  the feasting regimen?

Why We Should Pay Taxes Inspite of Corruption

Social and political criticisms

We often say we should not pay taxes because there is corruption.  Taxes do not go to the intended projects:  30 to 50% goes to the boys and to the clans (look at their waiting sheds, school buildings, gymns and even buildings.) named in their honor  (they did not pay for them did they)

However Sec Gary Teves former DOF secretary then, in a school program clarified the issues on taxes:

l.  The govt just like any other business, needs revenues to run.  The revenues, mostly local are the income business taxes.  Just pay say l0% over last year, it is good enough for the government.  Mind you it is not the custom duties, but local, internal revenue that support the bulk of govt operations (interesting eh)

2.  The govt is one of the biggest employers in the country.  The govt employees buy a lot of things;  the taxes we pay come back to us in terms of more vibrant market.

3.  It is better to have a govt (that is maybe corrupt) than to have chaos and disorder.

Need we say more

Can You Fight City Hall?..

Social and political criticisms

How strong should the government be:  very strong just right or weak.  In the US, the government is very strong;  in HK medium;  in Singapore very strong.

In the Philippines, I think it is strong.  The Judiciary, Military, the Legislative, Office of the President are all strong.  BIR has been collecting well because the government show it is powerful.

For a businessman, it is my belief that he should do only where he is good at, in business.  Yet I see a lot of businessmen even using the social media exposing themselves for whom they are for or against.

Tsk tsk tsk.

What did we gain from the CJ trial and conviction

Social and political criticisms

Well for one we are glad it is over.  Second, we can go back to work and concentrate on more pressing problems.

We are happy that some congressmen took the challenge of CJ and signed their waiver.  Will JPE sign one too.

They were not on trial  but the entire nation is looking up to those judges whether they have the moral right to judge so that they will not be judged as they ruled on Corona. I had hoped that it would be cleansing process

As of now we see the ugly head of politics rearing its head:   PNOY will not sign a waiver?

Eh bakit mya itinatago ba?  At mayroon nang pumumupuwesto pamalit kay Corona.

Eh di to the Victor belongs the spoils.  Walang nabago sa paghahalalal ng tamang tao sa puwesto.  We do not like Corona because he is a political protege.  It is time to change.  The trial and conviction of RC is useless if we do the same things again.
