A protest vs pork PDAF? It is a battle between the victor and the spoils...

Social and political criticisms

There is supposed to be a nationwide and a million protesters vs PDAF today.  Former SC Chief Justice was heard to be a Quirino grandstand probably to point at fingers his tormentors, who were as culpable as he is committing acts that were clearly unconstitutional.  While we may uphold high standards, the system perpetuate itself, and no end can be sight. The only hope may be a revolution.  Thus says Thomas Jefferson, every generation needs a revolution.  (As we as young protesters have often mouthed as if robots)

Some realities  we must accept:

l.  To the victor belongs the spoils  (those who are in power must reap the spoils of victory)  What are we in power for?  Would anybody believe that we did not enjoy the perks of power while we were in power.

2. Make hay while we may.  Can the officials still recover their costs if they are no longer in power?

3. It is a battle of commissioners.  Those who battled the former officials are now the corrupt officials.

4. Power corrupts and it corrupts absolutely.

5.  The politics of patronage.  Our politicos need the PDAF, or earnings from this to keep themselves in power:  from campaigning to keeping their constituents happy and well fed.  Where to get all that money. I doubt, if not one of these protesters solicited/received any money from anyone of these officials whom they are protesting now.   It is the way it works.    How can some people, including from the religious sector be so hypocrites

Land of the free (or the responsible?)

Social and political criticisms

Free dom has acquired  a new meaning;  so has "land of the free" in a national anthem.  It is more like the free of Chris Anderson.

Many citizens see that it is their right to expect to get free from the state.  The state is compelled to borrow massively to finance this culture of "free" entitlement.  State has to borrow massively to give free livelihood, food and the like to its citizen.  Result?

In the PHL, the free culture forces many politicians to have jueteng and many fund raising projects to fund/finance the need of their constituents  for free.  So you cant really abolish PDAF or jueteng.  No legislation can do that.

I saw how overpowering this idea of "free " is .  The homemaker did not arrive this morning to do the laundry, because she has to fall in line for a free from the LGU for the flood victims.  She missed a handsome pay for the day in favor of a measly free goods!

Unless our citizens subscribe to the mental model asked for by fmr President JFK  "Ask not what your country can do for you, not what your country can for you."

It is not about freedom, it is about responsibility

August 20, 2013 floods - due to poor infrastructure/clogged drainage or climate change?

Social and political criticisms

PHL   |  August 21, 2013

Heavy rains since the whole day of August 19, 2013 caused heavy flooding in Metro Manila and elsewhere in the PHL.  There was an unprecendented amount of rainfall (a la Ondoy?) brought about by Typhoon Maring.

Several areas were declared under state of calamity:  Paranaque City, entire Laguna province, San Mateo, Rizal, Tarlac City, Pampanga, Bataan, Taytay, Rizal.  Some bridges in Luzon were washed away.  More than 600 mm of rain fell - a record high

How Janet Lim Napoles started her MO?

Social and political criticisms

Repost from Rappler   | Aug 7, 2013

This is a rather controversial but evidence based post on Janet Napoles who is linked with the NGO scam for the cdf funds of various government personalities.

Incredibly she started small with a P3.8 deal on Kevlar helmets for the marines l5 years ago.  Now she is big time.

We hope we follow the dictum:   reward the doers and punish the bad.
